Team Lesotho will be participating in the Pan African Robotics Challenge to be held in Senegal. The first phase of the challenge will be fully virtual as it will be more focused on simulation. The real world phase is expected to be on July 2024.
This year’s theme, “Agricultural Technology 2.0: Exploring Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture in Africa,” builds upon the momentum from 2023. We invite participants from across Africa to envision how artificial intelligence and robotics can contribute to a resilient and sustainable agricultural landscape on the continent.
Competition Overview:
- Simulation Phase: Teams will engage in cutting-edge robotics development using tools such as ROS, Python, and OpenCV. Tasks include autonomous farm navigation and crop yield estimation. This phase is entirely virtual, with teams working within a robot simulation environment.
- Real World Phase: The top-performing teams from the Simulation Phase will advance to the in-person Real World Phase, scheduled to take place in Senegal in July 2024. During this phase, teams will integrate their software into an Agricultural Robot and compete on a partner farm.
Benefits for Participants:
- Access to essential robotics tutorials, tools and resources.
- Opportunity for hands-on experience working on an agricultural robot in the real world phase.
- Feedback and evaluation by a panel of robotics experts from academia and industry.
- A certificate of participation for all attendees.
